Hall, Peter
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
an English divine and theological writer was born in 1803. He studied first at Winchester College, and entered Brazenose College, Oxford, in 1820. He was ordained in 1828, and became successively curate of St. Edmund's Salisbury; rector of Millston, Wilts, in 1834; minister of Tavistock chapel, Drunr Lane, London, in 1836; and of Long Acre chapel in 1841. In 1843 he removed to Bath, and became minister of St. Thomas's chapel, Walcot. He died in 1849. Hall wrote Reliquie liturgicae: Documents connected with the Liturgy of the Church of England (Bath, 1847, 5 vols. 18mo): Fragmenta liturgica: Documents illustrative of the Liturgy of the Church of England (Bath, 1848,7 vols. 18mo); and a number of Sermons. Mr. Hall published a new English edition of that valuable work, The Harmony of the Protestant Confessions (1841,8vo), the two previous English editions of which (Camb. 1586, 12mo; London, 1643, 4to) had become very scarce. He also edited the best edition of the words of his ancestor, bishop Hall (Oxford, 1837, 12 vols.); and wrote Congregations l Reform four Sermons with notes (Loidon, 1835, 12mo).
