Gybngyosi (Di Peteny), Paulus

a Hungarian Reformed theologian, was born in 1668. He studied in England and at Franeker, and took the degree of doctor of theology at the latter place in 1700. Having returned to his country, he was pastor of the Reformed congregation at Kaschau, but he had to leave that place in 1724, and went to Frankfort-on-the-Oder, where he was appointed professor of theology. He died there in 1743, leaving, De Fatis Sexta Novi Testamenti AEtate (Franeker, 1700): Disp. Due in μνημονευτικόν Armoris Christi et Christianorum (ibid. 1700): Altare Pacis, pro Votis Vienicis Erectum; Arse Pilati Galilaeorum Substituendem (Basle, 1722), written against the bishop of Agran and the Jesuit Timon, who wrote against the Protestants; the publication of this work was the cause of his leaving the country: De Reverentia Templorum Novi Test. (Frankfort, 1731): De Mora Dei (1733): Speculum Ε᾿λευθερίας (1734): De Lapidibus Samariae (1736): De Glorificatione Christi (1738), etc. See Moser, Jetztlebende Theologen; Dunkel, Nachrichten, 3:725; Horanyi, Mem.
