a Spanish prelate and scholar, was born at Talavera in 1542. He was the son of Pedro Giron, member of the Council of Castile. He pursued his philosophical and theological studies at Alcala. Being appointed canon of Toledo, he became archdeacon of Guadalaxara on the withdrawal of his uncle, Lopez de Carnajel. In 1585 Philip II called him to his court as almoner and master of the chapel, and a little later intrusted to him the teaching of his little son, don Philip. In 1596 cardinal Albert of Austria appointed him grand-vicar of the archbishopric of Toledo. In 1598 he obtained the title of archbishop of the diocese which he governed.
