a Presbyterian minister, and president of Delaware College, was born at Lebanon, Columbia Co., New York, December 19, 1793, and graduated at Union College in 1813. After completing his theological course at Princeton, he was licensed in 1817, went on a mission to the West, and on his return was elected pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, Delaware. He was frequently engaged in missionary labors; and, on being released from his charge at Wilmington in 1834, he became agent for the American Education Society, but resigned on being chosen president of Delaware College. In 1835 he returned to Wilmington, where he remained till 1841, when he was recalled to the presidency of Delaware College. After a second resignation of this office in 1847, he was installed pastor of the Western Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, and died July 31, 1853. He published The Letters of Paul and Amicus; two tracts, viz. Regeneration and Perseverance; three articles in the Presb. Review, viz. Geology, The Apocalypse, and Millenarianism.
