a Baptist minister, was born at Halifax, Vermont, January 27, 1820; graduated from Union Theological Seminary, N.Y., in 1845; was ordained, June 26 of that year, over the Church in Somerville, N.J., and in January, 1851, became pastor of the First Church in Newark, which office he held till his death. October 2, 1877. Dr. Fish was the author of several works, among them, Primitive Piety Revived (Boston, 1855): — Pulpit Eloquence of the Nineteenth Century (N.Y. 1856, 1877): — The Hand-book of Revivals (Boston, 1874). His Bible Lands Illustrated (Hartford, 1876), was the outcome of a tour in the Holy Land. See Genesis Cat. of Union Theol. Sem. 1876, page 36; (N.Y.)
