(enlightened), a Mohammedan sect; who give themselves to contemplation. Their meditations pertain chiefly to God, whom they, unlike the other Mohammedans, believe to be a trinity of persons. Wherever the Koran conflicts with their doctrines they consider it abrogated. They hold in. utter contempt the gross notions of Mohammed concerning the sensual pleasures of paradise, and consider man's supreme happiness to consist in the contemplation of divinity.
