a Baptist minister, was born at Topsham, Maine, October 16, 1809; studied at Bowdoin College, and at Newton Theological Institution, where he graduated in 1838. He was pastor of the Second Baptist Church in Springfield, Mass., from 1838 to 1845. He then spent two and a half years in the State of Missouri, preaching, establishing Sunday-schools, and furnishing them with libraries. In 1847 he became pastor of the First Baptist Church of Alton, Illinois, but, becoming associate editor of the Western Watchman, published at St. Louis, Missouri, he again took an itinerant agency in that state, and, while thus employed, he died, July 24, 1854.
