a Scotch clergyman, brother of David, minister at Stow, was licensed to preach January 7, 1735; called to the living at Traquair, and ordained assistant and successor, September 12, 1738; transferred to Smailholm, October 26, 1743; and died September 29, 1795, aged eighty-six years. He published, A Preservative against the Principles of Infidelity (Edinb. 1774): The Devout Communicant's Assistant (Berwick, 1792): The Evidence of the Resurrection of Jesus, a sermon (Edinb. 1783): The History of the Revolution of 1688 (ibid. 1790): Miscellaneous Essays (1799): An Account of the Parush of Smailholm.
