a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born August 10, 1755, at Rotta, near Wittenberg. He studied, at Leipsic, philosophy, theology, and ancient languages; was in 1786 professor of philosophy, in 1791 professor of Hebrew and cognate languages, and died December 19, 1812, leaving, Maxima Versionurm Diffcultas in Linguarum Dissimilitudine Sita Est (Leipsic, 1783): — In Epistolam Syriacam Simeonis Beth-Arsamensis de Barsauma, etc. (ibid. 1788): — Quomodo Nomen קהלת Salomoni Tribuatur? (ibid. 1791): — Recitationes in Evangelium Johannis (ibid. 1796): — Novum Lexicon Linguae Hebraico-Chaldaicae, etc. (1801-4).
