D.D., a Scotch preacher and theologian of eminence, was born at Aberdeen Oct. 10, 1764, and was educated at King's College, where he passed A.M. in 1781. In 1788 he became minister of the Secession church in Slateford, but was transferred to Glasgow in 1801. In 1820 he was appointed professor of theology in the United Secession Church, but still retained his pastoral office. He died Jan. 25,1833. His principal writings are Lectures on Theology (Edinb. 1838, 4th ed. 4 vols. 8vo): — Essay on Inspiration (Glasgow, 1813, 3d ed. 8vo): — Lectures on Acts (Glasgow, 1848, 3d ed. 8vo; N.
