Davies, John (2), D.D.
an English clergyman and an eminent critic, was born in London, April 22, 1679. He was educated at the Charterhouse School and Queen's College, Cambridge, where he took the degree of A.B. in 1698; was chosen a fellow of his college in 1702, and became proctor in 1709. In 1711, having distinguished himself by several learned publications, he was collated to the rectory of Fen-Ditton, near Cambridge, and to a prebend in the Church of Ely, taking the same year the degree of LL.D. In 1716 he was chosen master of Queen's College. He died March 7, 1732. Dr. Davies was.not the author of any original work, but employed himself in publishing some correct editions of Greek and Latin authors of antiquity. See Chalmers, Biog.
