an English Baptist minister, was born at Burford, in Oxfordshire, October 14, 1784. He was converted when a child, and baptized at the age of seventeen. He became a student in Bristol College in 1802; was ordained, in 1808, as pastor at Brixham, Devonshire; in 1812 removed to Luton, Bedfordshire: was designated as a missionary to Ceylon, February 17, 1830; reached his station August 14 following, and labored until his death, June 2, 1844.
