Curry, Daniel, D.D., LL.D.
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born near Peekskill, N.Y., November 26, 1809. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1837, and immediately afterwards became principal of Troy Conference Academy; then professor in the female college at Macon, Georgia, in 1839, and in 1841 joined the Georgia Conference. When the Church separated into Northern and Southern, he came North and joined the New York Conference, in which he served as pastor until 1854.. For three years thereafter he was president of Asbury University, Greencastle, Indiana. He next served various. churches as pastor until 1864, when he became editor of the Christian Advocate, continuing in that position. until 1876. He edited the National Repository from 1876 to 1880, and then resumed pastoral work until 1884, when he was elected editor of the Methodist Re- view, of which he had been assistant editor since 1881, and continued in that position until his death, August 17, 1887. He published, besides many articles in periodicals, New York: a Historical Sketch (1853): — Life Story of Bishop D.W. Clark (1873): — Fragments, Religious and Theological (1880): — Platform Papers (eod.). He also superintended an American edition of Southey's Life of John Wesley (1847): — a condensed edition of Clarke's Commentary, and a work on The Book of Job (1887).
