a Scotch clergyman, was brought up as a blacksmith. He gained a prize at Edinburgh University for the best essay, and took his degree there in 1803; was licensed to preach in 1804, and ordained assistant at Stow in 1807. He died December 20, 1840, aged sixty-four years. He published, A Sermon at the Opening of the Synod (1810): — Pastoral Hints to his Parishioners (1823): — Inquiry into the Doctrine of Original Sin (1824): — On Voluntary Church Association: — Illustrations of Faith (1839): — Memoir of the Rev. William Stark: — besides many contributions to the Edinburgh Christian Instructor. He also translated from the French Fenelon's Lives of the Ancient Philosophers (1803, 2 volumes), and The Church of Rome Examined, by Dr. C. Malan. Dr. Cormack was an ardent student, a faithful minister, and a judicious friend. His fervent piety was enlivened by a natural turn for racy humor.
