a famous Roman Catholic preacher of France, was born at Chatenay, in the Isere Department, August 21, 1798. At the age of twenty-three he received holy orders, and pope Gregory XVI, before whom he once preached, appointed him apostolic vicar. For a number of years he acted as vicargeneral of Rouen, AArras, and Montpellier, and, died stiddenly at Paris, March 19, 1873. He wrote, Elements de Philosophie Catholique (Paris, 1833): La Connaissance de Jesus-Christ (1841; 4th ed. 1852): Memoire Adresse aur Eveques de France, etc. (1844), for which he was imprisoned for thirty days: Conferences sur les Grandeurs de la Sainte-Vierge (1845): Lettre a M.
