an English clergyman, was educated at Eton, and King's College, Cambridge, and became vicar of Kew and Petersham. A passion for gaming so embarrassed him financially that he was compelled to abscond to America in 1828, to avoid his creditors. He next took up his residence at Paris, where he is said to have been very successful at play, clearing £25,000 in less than two years. The dread of an impending surgical operation unbalanced his mind, and he blew out his brains at Fontainebleau in 1832. He published, Narrative of the Sampford Ghost (1810): Hypocrisy, a Satirical Poem (1812): — Napoleon, a poem (eod.): — Lines on the Conflagration of Moscow (1816): — Bacon, or Many Things in Few Words (1820).
