a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born at Lynn, Massachusetts, February 18, 1811. He was converted in early life, and immediately began to preach; was admitted in 1832 into the New England Conference, in which and (after 1840) in the Providence (now the New England Southern) Conference he occupied important positions until his death, October 30, 1885. By private studies he acquired a good degree of scholarship, and was well known as a writer, especially on historical subjects, in the periodicals of his denomination.
