an eminent Reformed theologian of Switzerland, was born in 1727 at Geneva, where he was ordained in 1751. Having returned from his travels in Holland and England, he was appointed pastor at his native place in 1761, and two years later was also elected professor of theology. He occupied the pulpit from 1761 to 1790, and the professor's chair from; 1763 to 11798. He published only one great work, Considerations sur les Miracles de Evangile (Geneva, 1765; translated into English and German), besides, twenty-six Dissertations, published from time to time. He died in 1801. Claparbde was an eloquent preacher, a stanch reformer, and an able divine. A selection of his sermons was published in 1805.
