Cheney, James
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
an English Congregational minister, was born at Guildford, Surrey, No. '' 9,1805. He openly professed Christianity in his twentieth year, was for years teacher, then superintendent, in the Sunday school of a neighboring village, and having made trial of his speaking abilities he finally became regular preacher at Shamly Green. He afterwards attended the Cotton End Training -Institution, and then proceeded as agent for the Home Missionary. Society to Broad Winsor and Wavytown, in Dorsetshire, where he labored fourteen years. His next removal was to the Isle of Portland, where he died, Nov. 20,1863. Mr. Cheney was a faithful and earnest minister, untiring in his efforts for the good of his people, and especially of great service to the poor in :times of sickness. See (Lond.) Cong.
