Cheever, Ebenezer
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
a Presbyterian minister, was born in 1787. He was converted in his twentieth year, and graduated from Bowdoi College, Brunswick, Me., in 1817. He accepted a call to Mount Vernon Congregational, Church, N. H., in 1819; in 1824 became pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Waterford, N. Y., and there labored for six years with zeal and success. In 1834 he took charge of the First Presbyterian Church of Newark, N. J., which under his administration, for twelve years, greatly prospered. About 1847 he accepted a call to the Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh, Mich.; in 1851 received a call to Ypsilanti, and in 1855 returned to New Jersey, and established Hillside Seminary, in West Bloomfield.
