an English minister of the Society of Friends, son of Elizabeth, was born at Bristol in 1809. He was carefully educated by religious parents, and spent several years of his early life with them in France. He was intimately connected with the missionary work, and especially with George Muller, in whose institution he took deep interest. In. 1854 he was sent by the Yearly Meeting .of the Society on a mission to the emperor of Russia, and, in 1858 he went. to Finland, Sweden, and Denmark on a a similar mission. He died Dec. 5, 1873.
