Chadbourne, John
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
a Baptist minister, was born in Maine about 1770. He was ordained as an evangelist in Cornish, Me., in 1798, having previously been the deacon of the Church. In 1799 he began to preach In Lemington, Vt. A number of persons were converted and joined the Church in Cornish. Their numbers in Treasing, they formed a new Church, and invited him to become their pastor. He remained with them one year, and then resigned. For several years he was engaged in itinerant work in the newly settled part of the state, and in 1809 became pastor of the church in Dixmont, Me. Here he remained two years (1809-11). From 1816 to 1826 he acted as supply, and in 1827 again became regular pastor at Dixmont, which position he held until his death in 1831. See Millett, Hist. of the Baptists of Maine, p. 439. (J. C.
