a French archaeologist, was born at Bayeux, Aug. 28,1802. He founded the Societe des Antiquaires de Norsiandie and Societe Francaise d'Archeologie pour la Conservation des Monuments Nationaux, which held annual sessions, and published the results of their investigations in the Bulletin Monumental, which Caumont edited till 1872. He died April 15, 1873, at Caen. Besides numerous contributions to different periodicals, he published Histoire de l'Artdans l'Quest de la France (1831-40, 6 vols.): — Abecedaie. ou Rudiments d'Archiologie (1850-62, 3 vols.; 3rd ed. 1869).
