After receiving several calls from different congregations, he finally accepted one from the congregations at Big Spring, Pistol Creek, and Monroe, in Tennessee. He was ordained in 1824; labored in Tennessee ten years, and was then elected professor of Hebrew, Biblical antiquities, chronology, and Church history in the Associate Presbyterian Seminary at Cannonsburg, Pa.
