Calder, John (3), D.D.
a Scotch Dissenter, was born at Aberdeen in 1733, and educated at the university there. He settled with a congregation at Alnwick, Northumberland, where he married a lady of fortune. In 1770 he removed to London, and succeeded Dr. Price at Poor Jury Lane. .Soon afterwards the society was dissolved, Dr. Calder became a member of Mr. Belsham's Unitarian congregation in the Strand, and devoted himself chiefly to his literary labors. He died in 1815. 'He published a Sermon (1772) :-a translation of Le Courayer's Last Sentiments on Religion (1787), and other works. See Allibone, Diet. of Brit. and Amer. Authors, s.v.; Rose, Gen.
