Caerlan (Or Cairlan)
was an Irish prelate. A short memoir of this saint is given by Colgan (Acta Sanctorum, p. 744), from which we learn that he was born in the district of the Hy-Niellan or O'Niallan, County Armagh. He was over a monastery in the same place about 546; and was finally raised to the episcopate of Armagh, succeeding Feidlimid Finn in 578. His death took place in 588, and he is commemorated March 24. See also Lanigan, Eccl. Hist. ῥ of Ireland, ii, 183; O'Donovan, i, 212, n., 213; Ware's Bishops.
