a German jurist, was born at Bruck, near Wittenberg, in 1484. He studied at Wittenberg and Frankfort. In 1520 he was appointed chancellor by the elector Frederick. In this position he rendered great service to the Reformation and the development of the Evangelical Church, especially at the diet of Augsburg in 1530. He died at Jena, February 15, 1557.
