Benoit, Jean (1),
a French theologian, native of Evreux, entered the Dominican order about 1510, and afterwards taught, with great success, theology at Paris. Being appointed priest of the Valley of Ecoliers by Henry II, he introduced a new course of discipline. He was a distinguished mathematician and architect, and assisted, it is said, in the construction of the chateau of Anet. He died in 1563, leaving, Introductiones Dialecticoe (Paris, 1538).
