a Protestant theologian of Germany, was born Dec. 9, 1749, at Harderode, in the duchy of Brunswick. He studied at Helmstadt, and in 1773 was appointed pastor at Eimbeck in Hanover. In 1778 he was called to Brunswick, and in 1789 was made court preacher and provost at Riddagshausen. He died Dec. 16, 1826.
