Barnard, Thomas, (2),

a Unitarian minister, was born Aug. 17, 1716, probably at Andover, Mass. He graduated at Harvard College in 1732, and was ordained and installed pastor of the First Church in Newbury, Mass., Jan. 31, 1739. He was, by his own request, dismissed Jan. 18, 1751; removed to Newburyport, studied law, became a practitioner at the bar, and was a representative of the town to the General Court. He subsequently re-entered the ministry, and was installed as pastor of the First Church in Salem, Mass., Sept. 18, 1775. Here he continued till the close of his life, Aug. 15, 1776.
