Barbour (Barber, Barbere, Or Barbar), John
a Scottish clergyman, poet, and historian, was born in the period from 1316 to 1330, the place as well as the date being-involved in obscurity. He became archdeacon of Aberdeen. and died in 1396. His only extant production is entitled The Bruce, and is a chronicle in Scotch verse of the warlike deeds of Robert I (1306-29) in his efforts for the independence of hie country.
