(Ἀσβασαρέθ v.r. Ἀσβακαφάς,Vulg. Asbazareth), given (1 Esdras 5:69) as the name of the Assyrian king who planted the Samaritan colonies in Palestine; evidently a corruption for ESARHADDON (See ESARHADDON) (q.v.) in the true text (Ezra 4:2).
