was born in that city in 499, and succeeded Auxanus in that see in 546. Pope Vigilius esteemed him so highly that he at once sent him the pallium without waiting for the request, and made him his vicar and legate in the kingdom of Childebert. Aurelian, with the king's aid, restored and maintained discipline in the Church, and built two monasteries at Aries, besides other religious houses. In 549 he attended the Council of Orleans, and died June 16, 551. He wrote two rules for the convents he had founded, which are found in the collection of Holstein and in the Annals of Le Cointe. A letter to king Theodebert is found in Freher and in the collection of Duchesne. Some, writers erroneously confound him with Aurelian,of, Lyons, who lived at the end of the 9th century.
