Aubespine, Gabriel de L
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
a French prelate, was born in Paris, Jan. 26, 1579. He was the son of Guillaume d'Aubespine, baron of Chateauneuf. In 1604 he succeeded his kinsman, Jean d'Aubespine, in the bishopric of Orleans. He inherited a talent for negotiation, and was so successful that many affairs were intrusted to him. He assisted at the assembly of the bishops .of the province of Sens in 1612, and there signed, with regret, the condemnation of the famous book. of Richer. He died at Grenoble, Aug. 15, 1630. He wrote, De Veteribus Ecclesice Ritibus (1623): — De Ancienne Police de l'Eglise sur l'Administration de l'Eucharistie: — Notes upon the canons of the several councils collected by Labbe:-also Notes upon Tertullian and upon Optatus of Milevia.
