a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born near Radnor, Pa., May 4, 1818. He received a careful religious training; experienced conversion at the age of sixteen, and, after spending several years as exhorter and local preacher, he, in 1840, entered the Philadelphia Conference. In 1868 he became superannuated, and remained so till his death, Oct. 21,1871. Mr. Arthur was amiable, frank, generous, confiding, sincere, uniform, and uncompromising.
