an English divine, dean of Chester, was a native of Cheshire, and was educated in Christ's College, Cambridge. In 1673 he became a fellow- 'ommoner of Brasenose College, Oxford.. He held the living of St. Botolph, Aldgate, London, from 1666 to 1682, when king Charles II bestowed upon him the deanery of Chester. He died Sept. 18,.1691. His writings are, Directions concerning the Matter and Style of Sermons (1671, 12mo):-Conjectura circa Επινομην D. Clementis Romani, cui sunijciuntur Castigationes in Epiphanium et Petaviumn de Echaristia, de Calibatu Clericorum, et de Orationibus pro. Vita Functis (London, 1683, 4to).
