Alden Joseph, D.D., LL.D.
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
or a noted educator and author, was born at Cairo, N.Y., January 4, 1807. He graduated from Union College in 1828, and from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1830; was tutor two years in the College of New Jersey; ordained over the Congregational Church in Williamstown, Massachusetts, July 3, 1834; professor in the college there from 1835 to 1852; and in Lafayette College, Pennsylvania, thereafter until 1857, when he was elected its president; from 1863 to 1865 preached as stated supply at Boiling Spring, N.J.; from 1867 to 1880 was principal of the New York State Normal School at Albany, and died in the city of New York, August 30, 1885. He wrote chiefly for the young, especially in the department of Sunday-school literature, and in the religious journals.
