עָרִיץ (with Kametz impure for עַדִּיץ) adj. and subst. pr. terrifying, causing fear; hence
(1) very powerful, used of God, Jerem. 20:11 of powerful nations, Isaiah 25:3.
(2) in a bad sense, violent, fierce, Psalms 37:35; Isaiah 13:11, 25:3 Job 15:20, 27:13. Ezekiel 28:7, עָרִיצֵי גוֹיִם “violent nations;” 30:11 31:12 32:12.
