a. full, perfect: אָבָן שְׁלֵמָה full weight Deuteronomy 25:15, ׳אֵיפָה שׁ Deuteronomy 25:15; Proverbs 11:1; of עֶוֺן Genesis 15:16 (JE); number of captives Amos 1:6,9; of army Nahum 1:12 (text corrupt; ᵐ5משֵׁל מַיִם, but ?; see Commentaries); of reward Ruth 2:12; of stones, whole (in natural condition, unhewn) Deuteronomy 27:6; Joshua 8:31 (compare law Exodus 20:25).

שָׁלֵם m. שְׁלֵמָה f. adj.
(1) whole, perfect,
(a) i.e. of full and just number and measure, as אֶבֶן שְׁלֵמָה a just weight, Deuteronomy 25:15 compare Genesis 15:16 (where it is used of a full and just measure of sins); גָּלוּת שְׁלֵמָה a full number of captives, Amos 1:6,.
(b) sound, safe, Genesis 33:18 of an army, Nahum 1:12. אֲבָנִים שָׁלֵמוֹת are stones which have been untouched, are unviolated by iron, i.e. rough, unhewn Deuteronomy 27:6; 1 Kings 6:7.
(2) completed, finished, 2 Chronicles 8:16.
(3) cherishing peace and friendship (see the root in Pual, Hiphil, Hophal). Genesis 34:21, שְׁלֵמִים הֵם אִתָּנוּ “they live peaceably with us;” specially שׁ׳ עִם יְהֹוָה devoted to God, at peace with him, 1 Kings 8:61, 11:4 15:3, 14 1 Kings 15:14 and without these words, 2 Kings 20:3; 1 Chronicles 28:9; 2 Chronicles 15:17. Compare Hiphil No. 2; (also صُسْلِمُ devoted to God and to Mahomet, one who professes the Mahometan religion.)
(4) [Salem, Shalem], pr.n. i.q. יְרוּשָׁלֵם Jerusalem, as to the etymology of which, see p. 367, A, Genesis 14:18; Psalms 76:3. Josephus (Antiq. i. 10, § 2 ), τὴν μέντοι Σόλυμα ὕστερον ἐκάλεσαν Ἱεροσόλυμα. See Relandi Palæstina, p. 976. (Arab. ثَلَمُ, ثَلَّمُ id.).
