1. pour out, prop. of liquids, οἶνον Il. 3.296; αἷμ' ἐκχέας πέδοι A. Eu. 653, cf. Matthew 23:35 (Pass.); ἀναίτιον αἷμα SIG 1181.5 (Jewish, ii B.C.); πηγάς E. HF 941; δάκρυα Pl. Smp. 215e (Pass.), Plu. 1. pour out, stream out or forth, prop. of liquids, Il. 21.300, Od. 19.504, etc.; ἐκ δ' ἄρα πᾶσαι χύντο χαμαὶ χολάδες Il. 4.525; so ἐξεχύθη τὰ σπλάγχνα Acts 1:18 : metaph., of persons, σφήκεσσιν ἐοικότες ἐξεχέοντο Il. 16.259; ἱππόθεν ἐκχύμενοι pouring from the [wooden] horse, Od. 8.515; ἐκχυθέντες ἁλέες ἐκ τοῦ τείχεος Hdt. 3.13: generally, to be spread out, πολλὰ δὲ [δέσματα].. μελαθρόφιν ἐξεκέχυντο Od. 8.279; σάρκες εἰς ὑπέρογκον ἐκκεχυμέναι πιότητα Luc. 3. give oneself up to any emotion, to be overjoyed, Ar. V. 1469 (lyr.); ἐ. εἰς ἑταίρας, εἰς τὸν κίνδυνον, give oneself up to.., Plb. 31.25.4, 3.19.1; ἐπὶ τὰ εὐτρεπισθέντα, of a glutton, Ph. 1.38; ἁβρὰ γελῶν ὄμμασιν ἐκκέχυσαι AP 12.156.
4. lie languidly, ib.5.54.8(Diosc.).
5. metaph., of Time, ἐ. κατὰ τὴν χρονικὴν παράτασιν Procl. Inst. 55.

ἐκχέω and (a form censured by the grammarians, see Lob. ad Phryn., p. 726) ἐκχύνω (whence present passive participle ἐκχυνόμενος and, in L T Tr WH after the Aeolic form, ἐκχυννόμενος (cf. Buttmann, 69 (61); Winers Grammar, § 2, 1 d.; Tdf. Proleg., p. 79): Matthew 23:35; Matthew 26:28; Mark 14:24; Luke 11:50 (where Tr text WH text ἐκκεχυμένον for ἐκχυννόμενον);
a. properly: φιάλην, by metonymy, of the container for the contained, Revelation 16:1-4, 8, 10, 12, 17; of wine, which when the vessel is burst runs out and is lost, Matthew 9:17; Mark 2:22 (R G L Tr marginal reading in brackets); Luke 5:37; used of other things usually guarded with care which are poured forth or cast out: of money, John 2:15; ἐξεχύθη τά σπλάγχνα, of the ruptured body of a man, Acts 1:18 (ἐξεχύθη ἡ κοιλία αὐτοῦ εἰς τήν γῆν, of a man thrust through with a sword, 2 Samuel 20:10). The phrase αἷμα έ᾿κχειν or ἐκχύν῾ν᾿ειν is frequently used of bloodshed: (Matthew 23:35; Luke 11:50; Acts 22:20; Romans 3:15; Revelation 16:6a (where Tdf. αἵματα)); see αἷμα, 2 a. b. metaphorically, equivalent to to bestow or distribute largely (cf. Fritzsche on Tobit 4:17 and Sir. 1:8): τό πνεῦμα τό ἅγιον or ἀπό τοῦ πνεύματος, i. e. the abundant bestowal of the Holy Spirit, Acts 2:33 from Joel 2:28, 29 (

For the subst. see P Tebt I. 86.9 (late ii/B.C.) ἐκχύ (σεως) Ἵππωνος βαλα (νείου), P Lond 1177.84 (A.D. 113) (= III. p. 183) ἐκχύσεων, and for a previously unknown adj. see P Oxy IX. 1220.16 (iii/A.D.) πέμψις μοι τοὺς ἐκχυσιαίους ἥλους, ";you will send me the nails for emptying (?)"; (Ed.). For other compound forms cf. P Ryl II. 154.14 (A.D. 66) λιβὸς διῶρυξ λεγομένηι Ἀρχείου δι᾽ οὗ (l. ἧς) ἀποχεῖεται (l. ἀποχεῖται) ὁ κλῆρ [ο ]ς, ";on the west the dyke called that of Archias by which the holding is drained,"; and .18 διῶρυξ εἰς ὃν (l. ἣν) εἰσχεῖτα [ι ] ὁ κλῆρ [ος, ";the dyke into which the holding drains.";
