חָנַן fut. יָחֹן and like regular verbs יֶחֱנַן Amos 5:15 the former with suffix יְחָנֵּנוּ Psalms 67:2, 123:2 יְחֻנֶּנּוּ Isaiah 27:11 but with suffix 2 pers. יָחְנְךָ for יְחָנְךָ Genesis 43:29; Isaiah 30:19 inf. absol. חָנוֹן Isa. loc. cit., constr. with suff. חֲנַנְכֶם Isaiah 30:18, with חֶנְנֶהּ Psalms 102:14.

(1) to be inclined towards (compare the kindred חָנָה), hence to be favourably inclined, to favour some one, to be gracious to, to pity. (Arab. حَنَّ to feel desire, or commiseration towards any one; followed by الى, على Followed by an acc., Exodus 33:19; Lamentations 4:16; Proverbs 14:31. חָנֵּנִי, חָנֵּנוּ (once חָנְנֵנִי Psalms 9:14), have mercy on me, on us; Psalms 4:2, 6:3 31:10.

Niphal נֵחַן (of the form נֵאַר from the root אָרַר, נֵחַם from the root חָמַם; see Lehrgeb. p. 371), to be compassionated, to be an object of pity, Jeremiah 22:23 pass. of Poel No. 2.
