Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

בַּהֶרֶת pl. בֶּהָרוֹת f. a spot in the skin, especially a white spot, which when it is lower than the rest of the skin, and has white hairs, is the symptom of the Oriental leprosy (-Leviticus 13:24, -1823, -2428 ); but if not, it is harmless, whether it be cicatrix, or it arise from burning, or it be vitiligo, verse 38 Leviticus 13:38, 39 Leviticus 13:39. Jahn (Archæol. i. § 215), incorrectly regards this word בַּהֶרֶת as being the special name of a certain disease, the λεύκη of Hippocrates; בֹּהַק differs from this as being the special name of a disease consisting of whitish spots.
