מַעֲבָר m. (from the root עָבָר)

(1)  a passing over, going on, Isaiah 30:32, כֹּל מַעֲבַר מַטֵּה מוּסָדָה וְגו׳ pr. “all the passing over of the decreed rod … … (is) with timbrels,” i.e. wherever the rod passes (and smites) there the timbrels sound.

(2) a place of passing over

(a) the ford of a river, Genesis 32:23.

(b) a narrow valley, a pass of the mountains, 1 Samuel 13:23.-The fem. is
