קָבַץ fut. יִקְבֹּץ prop. to take, to grasp with the hand (Arab. قبص to take with the tips of the fingers; قبض to catch with the hand, قبط id.; comp. Aram. חֲבַץ ܚܒܰܨ to compress; and Hebr. קָמַץ, קָפַץ); hence to collect, Genesis 41:48.
(a) things, Deuter. 13:17 Proverbs 13:11.
(b) persons, to congregate, 2 Samuel 3:21; 1 Kings 18:19, 20:1. Metaph. Psalms 41:7, “his heart (the wicked man’s, who comes to see me) יִקְבָּץ־אָוֶן לוֹ gathers iniquity to itself,” i.e. matter for calumny.
Niphal, to be gathered, collected, Ezekiel 29:5 to be congregated, to congregate selves, Isaiah 34:15, 43:9 49:18 60:4 and frequently.
Piel
(1) to take with the hand, to take hold of, to receive (opp. to עָזַב), Isaiah 54:7.
(2) to collect
(a) things, as grapes, Isaiah 62:9 water, Isaiah 22:9.
(b) persons, to congregate, Deuteronomy 30:3, Deuteronomy 30:4; Jeremiah 31:10 often used of Jehovah bringing back exiles, Jeremiah 23:3; Isaiah 40:11.
(3) i.q. אָסַף No. 3; to gather to oneself, to draw in, to withdraw, Joel 2:6; Nahum 2:11. See פָּארוּר.
Pual, part. f., gathered together, Ezekiel 38:8.
Hithpael, to gather selves together, Joshua 9:2; Judges 9:47.
