עָלַז i.q. עָלַס and עָלַץ to exult, to rejoice, (originally, I believe, used of a sound of joy, like ἀλαλάζω, רָנַן, not of leaping, dancing, like the syn. גִּיל), 2 Samuel 1:20; Psalms 68:5 followed by בְּ, concerning anything, Psalms 149:5; Habakkuk 3:18. It is also applied to inanimate things, Psalms 96:12. It is sometimes used in a bad sense, of insolent, haughty men, Psalms 94:3; Isaiah 23:12 compare 5:14.
