Georg. 21: abs., Democr. 239, Hdt. 1.10, etc.; μὴ.. ἀθῷος διαφύγῃ PTeb. 44.28 (ii B.C.); ἐκ τῆς Μήλου Th. 8.39; δ. ἐκ πόνων εἰς ἀγαθά Pl. Lg. 815e; διαφεύγει δ' οὐδὲ νῦν but it is not even now too late, D. 10.31: — Pass., διεφεύχθη ὁ κίνδυνος J. AJ 18.8.9.

διαφεύγω: (2 aorist διεφυγον; from Herodotus down; to flee through danger, to escape: Acts 27:42 (Proverbs 19:5; Joshua 8:22).

The ";perfective"; sense in διαφυγεῖν ";escape through fleeing"; (see Proleg. p. 112) comes out well in P Tebt I. 44.28 (B.C. 114) μή ποτε ἐξ ὑστέρου παθόντος τί μου ἀθῶιος διαφύγηι, ";so that if anything happens to me subsequently he may not escape unpunished"; (Edd.) : cf. P Amh II. 131.6 (early ii/A.D.) ἐλπίζω δὲ θεῶν θελόντων ἐκ τῶν λαλουμένων διαφεύξεσθαι καὶ μετὰ τὴν πεντεκαιδεκάτην ἀναπλεύσειν, ";but I hope, if the gods will, to yet escape from the talking and after the fifteenth to return home"; (Edd.).
