Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

מָאַר not used in Kal. [“Cognate apparently to the root מָרַר to be bitter, sour; compare מָאַס, and מָסַס (Arab. مأر).” Thes.]

Hiphil הִמְאִיר, perhaps i.q. תִמְרִיר (compare מָאַס No. II), properly to make bitter, hence to cause bitter pain. Ezekiel 28:24, סִלּוֹן מַמְאִיר “a thorn which causes pain,” i.e. pricking. צַרַעַת מַמְאֶרֶת painful, malignant leprosy, Leviticus 13:51, 52 Leviticus 13:52, 14:44. Others in both cases compare Arab. مأر to become raw again as a wound.
