2. leave hold of, lose, ψυχάν Pi. P. 3.101 (tm.); βίον S. Ph. (lyr., tm.); νέαν ἁμέραν ἀπολιπὼν θάνοι E. Ion 720 (lyr.): conversely, ἐμὲ μὲν ἀπολέλοιπεν ἤδη βίοτος S. 3. c. part., leave off doing, ἀ. λέγων X. Oec. 6.1: abs., ὅθεν ἀπέλιπες from the point at which.., Pl. Grg. 497c, cf. Phd. 78b, Isaiah 5:12.

4. depart from, ἐκ τῶν Συρακουσῶν Th. 5.4; ἐκ τοῦ Μηδικοῦ πολέμου Id. 3.10, cf. Pl. Phd. 112c. Med. (aor. ἀπελιπόμην in A.R. 1.399 (tm.)), like Acts 1:1, bequeath to posterity, Hdt. 2.134 codd.; cf. ἀπολείψεται· ἐάσεται, Hsch. Pass.,

ἀπολείπω: (imperfect ἀπελειπον, WH text in 2 Timothy 4:13, 20; Titus 1:5); 2 aorist ἀπέλιπον; (from Homer down);

1. to leave, leave behind: one in some place, Titus 1:5 L T Tr WH; 2 Timothy 4:18, 20. Passive ἀπολείπεται it remains, is reserved: Hebrews 4:9; Hebrews 10:26; followed by the accusative and an infinitive, Hebrews 4:6.

2. to desert, forsake: a place, Jude 1:6.

P Par 22.6 (ii/B.C.) ἡ γὰρ δηλουμένη Νέφορις ἀπολιποῦσα τὸν πατέρα ἡμῶν συνῴκησε Φιλίππῳ τινί. The word is apparently a term. techn. in wills, etc., e.g. P Oxy I. 105.3, .4 (A.D. 117–37) κληρόνομον ἀπολείπω τὴν θυγατέρα [ν ] μου. . . τὰ δὲ ὑπ᾽ ἐμοῦ ἀπολειφθησόμενα σκεύη κτλ., P Cattiv. 9 (ii/A.D.) (= Chrest. II. p. 421), BGU IV. 1098.49 (c. B.C. 18), ib. 1148.22 (B.C. 13), ib. 1164.18 (B.C. 15–1), and Michel 1001ii. 4 (c. B.C. 200—the Will of Epicteta). In BGU IV. 1138.17 (B.C. 19–18) (= Chrest. II. p. 123) ἀπόλε ̣ι ̣π ̣ε ̣ μο ̣ι τὸν Παπία (i.e. αν) ἐκ τῆ (ς) φυ ̣λ ̣α ̣κ ̣η ̣̑(ς), a jailor reports what the offending party said to him, asking him to ";leave"; the imprisoned debtor to him. The verb occurs in a Phrygian tombstone of A.D. 114, C. and B. 590 (ii. p. 656) ὑοὺς ὑπὲρ γῆς ἀπολιποῦσ [α ] τέσσαρας καὶ θυγατέρα. It is MGr.
