(as in cl.) c. gen., Acts 20:33, 1 Timothy 3:1; in late Gk. also c. acc (M, Pr., 65), Matthew 5:28 (Rec. αὐτῆς ; T omits; cf. Exodus 20:17, Micah 2:2, Wisdom of Solomon 16:3, al.); c. inf., Matthew 13:17, Luke 15:16; Luke 16:21; Luke 17:22, 1 Peter 1:12, Revelation 9:6; c. acc et inf., Hebrews 6:11; as in Hebrew, ἐπιθυμία ἐπεθύμησα , Luke 22:15.†

For the late acc. constr. with this verb, as in Matthew 5:28 BD, cf. the Hadrumetum Memorial of iii/A.D., reproduced in BS, p. 274 ff., 45 μηδεμίαν ἄλλη [ν ] γυναῖκα μήτε παρθένον ἐπιθυμοῦντα. In P Lond 897 (A.D. 84) (= III. p. 207) after the closing word of l. .28 the following words have been written and struck out—. . με. . σε οὐκ ἐπιθυμῶι εἰς Ἀρσινοΐτην π. Other exx. of the verb are BGU I. 248.14 (ii/A.D.) ὧν κοινῆσε βούλεθαι (l. κοινῆσαι βούλεται) καὶ αὐτὸν ἐ [.] ε. [.] . . . ἐπιθυμεῖν τῶν ἠθῶν σου ἀπολαῦσαι, P Oxy VI. 963 (ii/iiiA.D.) ἀσπάζομαί σε, μῆτερ, διὰ τῶν γραμμάτων τούτων ἐπιθυμοῦσα ἤδη θεάσασθαι, and from the inscrr. Syll 226.106 (iii/B.C.) πρὸς δὲ τούτοις Θισαμάτας καὶ Σκύθας καὶ Σαυδαράτας ἐπιθυμεῖν τοῦ ὀχυρώματος (";fortress";), OGIS 764.19 (ii/B.C.) τοῖς ἄλλοις ἄρχουσιν πᾶ ]σιν καὶ Ῥωμαίων τοῖς ἐπιθυμοῦσιν καὶ τοῖς ἐλευθέροις παισίν.
