Bible Verse Review
  from Treasury of Scripure Knowledge

the fame: קןע [Strong's G2279], the sound; a very elegant metaphor, says Dr. Adam Clarke. The people are represented as struck with astonishment, and the sound goes out through all the coasts; in allusion to the propagation of sound by a smart stroke upon any substance. Luke 4:14, Isaiah 52:13, Matthew 4:23-25, Matthew 9:26, Mark 1:28, Mark 1:45, Mark 6:14

Gill's Notes on the Bible

And the fame of him went out,.... From hence on account of his dispossessing this unclean spirit, which seems to be the first instance of this kind:

into every place in the country round about; into every city, town, and village in Galilee, and even into all places round about Galilee; Mark 1:28.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

See this explained in the notes at Mark 1:21-39.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

Verse 37. The fame — ηχος, the sound. This is a very elegant metaphor. The people are represented as struck with astonishment, and the sound goes out through all the coasts; in allusion to the propagation of sound, by a smart stroke upon any substance, by which the air is suddenly agitated, and conveys the report made by the stroke to distant places. So this miracle was told to others by those who saw it, and they to others still, till it was heard through all the coasts of Galilee, Mark 1:28.
